Aix-en-Provence was our base during lavender season and perusing the local markets was at the top of my list. On any given day there is a market open, featuring fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, cheese, flowers, crafts and other artisanal goods. A visual feast much like the markets in Paris, with a rainbow of fresh produce on offer.
My favourite markets were the Luynes market and the flower market, which offer everything you need for a Provencal picnic. Not to mention some of the most flavourful peaches, nectarines and basil I have ever tasted.
