Anchored

Photos by Max Rowan

My love for nautical inspired clothing continues. I love the simple yet chic effect of pairing red, white and blue. This colour combination preference which can also be seen here and here prompted a friend to gift me these wonderful bangles. The bangles go perfectly with my navy nautical pants, white scalloped top and red lipstick. I particularly love the little details on nautical clothing such as the gold anchor buttons on the pants.

Last night I attended a Halloween party for the first time. Keep an eye out on my Twitter and Tumblr for an outfit photo.

Stripes on stripes

Images via Topshop, Forever New and Dotti, collage by Dark Blue Stripes

It is no secret that I am a little obsessed with stripes as shown here, here and here.  I have however never styled an entire outfit out of my favourite print.

I really like the effect of combining stripes of varying thicknesses to achieve a contrasting yet put together look. A pop of colour in one striped piece when combined with a classic black or navy stripe also adds a fun edge to an outfit.

Here are a few outfits I could see myself wearing this spring/summer. A few pieces such as the Dotti Ava Tie Front Tee and Forever New Freya Classic Stripe Skirt are definitely on my wish list.

Burgundy with a bow

Photos by Max Rowan

It is only now as I am writing this post that I am realising my subconscious decision to wear a bow on my birthday yesterday. This outfit choice was completely unintentional but I guess if you are going to dress for your birthday what better to wear than burgundy and a bow!

In other news I finally got around to creating a Dark Blue Stripes tumblr. I would love to hear about inspiring tumblrs to have a look at so feel free to let me know of any that you follow via my tumblr here.

I hope you are all enjoying the weekend. The weather has been amazing here in Sydney!

Denim and dots

Photos by Max Rowan

The Sydney weather on Sunday was wonderful. Perfect weather for ditching the tights and bringing out one of my new spring/summer tops from Topshop. I decided what better outfit to wear than classic denim and polka dots to have fun in the sun, whilst lunching and wandering around the Rocks and Circular Quay.

I must admit to suffering from Mondayitis today after having such wonderful weather on the weekend, however I am excited about having a four day work week this week as I have taken a long weekend for my birthday. I hope you all have a lovely week.

Red, white and blue

Photos by Max Rowan

My outfit very much reflects the day I have had. Bright, light and floaty. It was wonderful wandering up and down King Street with the spring sun on my skin and just the right amount of breeze blowing through my hair.

The red shorts certainly brightened my mood today. I like combining primary colours with black and white to add impact to an outfit.

New arrivals: Woven flats + Lula

These lovely woven flats and the current issue of Lula welcomed me upon my arrival home this evening. How amazing is the Lula cover?! I love the mystery and drama in the cover shot.  Hopefully the rain will go away so I can wear the latest addition to my Spring/Summer shoe collection.

What does everyone have planned for the weekend? I am hoping to catch up on much needed sleep.

Romantic sailor

Photos by Max Rowan

I love nautical clothing, particularly sailor coats/jackets and dresses. This sailor jacket is very special to me as I am reminded of the wonderful days spent in Paris wandering along the Champs-Élysées every time I wear it. I came across this jacket in H&M and knew I had to have it. The rounded collar, anchor buttons and cream detailing were all too cute to pass up. The pairing of the sailor jacket with the lace shorts and burgundy top to achieve a romantic look felt like a natural combination.

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I am having a nice relaxing Sunday watching Star Wars with my boyfriend, whilst awaiting the arrival of our friends for a Rugby World Cup party in the apartment.

Polka dot pleats

Photos by Max Rowan

It is no secret that I am completely obsessed with polka dots at the moment. Polka dot pieces are just so fun and playful to wear. When I came across this adorable skirt in Zara on the weekend I knew I had to get it. The skirt ticked all the necessary boxes. Polka dots, pleats and black and white. Tick, tick and tick.

How is everyone's week going so far? It feels like a Monday for me, as today was my first day back at work since the long weekend. Love that there is another weekend in two days time. If only all weeks were like this.

Red shorts on a windy day

Photos by Max Rowan

I really like my new shorts. Firstly, what a great colour. The red definitely pops against the striped top. The adorable button up front is really fun and the flowy, pleated fit is so comfortable to wear. It was quite windy in Hyde Park yesterday, making the shorts move with the wind in an almost skirt like fashion. I guess the wind just highlighted the versatility of the shorts.

I hope everyone has enjoyed the long weekend. My weekend has been quite nice and relaxing so far, involving mainly eating out,  going to the movies and shopping. I am lucky enough to have an extra day off tomorrow so it will be a short working week for me. What did you get up to on the weekend?
